A house addition is a structure built alongside and connecting to an existing house. The extra space afforded by the addition typically is used for bedrooms, family rooms, media rooms, and bathrooms. Additions are usually built by contractors who specialize in additions or new home building. Sunrooms and sunporches are often advertised as viable alternatives to additions. While these factory-manufactured structures do have their charm as conservatories or sunny places to read and relax, they do not fall into the category of house additions.
